This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hormel Foods. All opinions are 100% mine.

I can’t always get too fancy around here when I’m in the kitchen cooking. After all I have two teenage boys, and there are certain things that they require. One of those is Classic Frito Pie using Hormel® Chili No Beans, FRITO® corn chips, onions, and good old American cheese.

This is a classic snack I make them when they have friends over playing video games. It’s quick, easy, and sinfully yummy! I’ve been known to scarf one of these down all to myself, shhh.

Classic FRITO Pie using Hormel® Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup grated American cheese
  • 1 (15-ounce) can Hormel® Chili No Beans
  • 3 cups FRITO® corn chips

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350ºF.
  2. In shallow baking dish, layer 2 cups chips, the onion and 1/2 cup cheese. Pour chili over cheese. Top with remaining 1 cup chips and 1/2 cup cheese.
  3. Bake pie 15 to 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and chili is hot.

Fun Hormel® Chili and Dinty Moore® Facts!

In the 30s, characters Jiggs and Maggie from “Bringing Up Father” were used in Dinty Moore® advertisements. Later, a lumber jack character was introduced, proclaiming “First name’s Dinty, last name’s Moore,” who placed his signature thumbprint on every can. Utilizing celebrities proved to be a popular route in promoting Hormel® chili. Ray Milland, star of “Copper Canyon,” appeared in print ads. In the 80s, pro football player Fran Tarkenton was tapped to promote Hormel® chili.

Here’s a quick and easy recipe using Dinty Moore® Chicken & Dumplings. I didn’t even know they made a chicken version!

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 450°F.
  2. Sprinkle flour over pie crust. Place crust, flour-side down, on baking sheet. Place 1 1/2-quart round casserole over crust. Cut around edge of casserole; remove casserole. Trim additional 1/4 inch from edge of crust; cut slits in center.
  3. Bake crust 9 to 11 minutes or until light golden brown.
  4. In saucepan, stir together chicken and dumplings and mixed vegetables. Heat thoroughly. Pour mixture into 1 1/2-quart casserole. Top with baked crust. Serve immediately.
