Triscuit Teams With Urban Farming

I wanted to share the exciting news that Triscuit is working with Urban Farming, a non-profit organization, to create 50 new community-based home farms throughout the United States.

Urban Farming have a mission to create an abundance of food for people in need by planting farms on unused land and space while increasing diversity, educating youth, adults and seniors and providing an environmentally sustainable system to uplift communities.

As part of the Home Farming Movement, Triscuit has included plantable herb seed cards in 4 million boxes of Triscuits to help encourage people to grow their own vegetables and herbs!

You can find the specially marked boxes of Triscuits in your local grocery store. The Original Triscuits come with basil seeds, and the Reduced Fat Triscuits come with dill seeds. I started the seeds in small pots in my kitchen, and when the heat of the desert dies down a little bit, I will transfer them outside to my larger pots. Having fresh basil and dill to cook with will be wonderful!

How to grow the seeds

  1. Take the seed card out from the box & soak 2-4 hours before planting.
  2. Starting at one of the corners, peel the seed card into two pieces to expose the seeds.
  3. Place both card pieces in an 8″ pot full of dirt with the seed side up. Cover the cards with a quarter inch of dirt.
  4. Keep soil moist, but not overly wet, with 6-8 hours of sunlight everyday.
  5. Seeds should sprout in 10-12 days.

Let me know if you pick up a box of Triscuits and plant the seeds! And please RT my post on Twitter to help spread the word about Triscuit and Urban Farming.

I received two boxes of Triscuits and a gift card from DEI Worldwide to facilitate this blog post and help with the expenses of planting the seeds. Special thanks to Triscuit Home Farming
